What works for boosting immune system for cancer?
Can counseling help with a high immune system? Here is great news for women being treated for cancer:
At the University of California, Irvine, researchers discovered that as few as 6 telephone counseling sessions, after their cancer treatment, helped to improve the immune system as well as quality of life of women who had been treated for cervical cancer. (Journal, Clinical Cancer Research)
Research has already shown that both stress and negative emotions can weaken the immune system.
So researchers at the U. of California set out to find out if counseling helped as a low immune system treatment, after their cancer treatment was complete.
After giving women six telephone counseling sessions, the researchers took blood tests again, and here is what they found:
Lari Wenzel, associate professor of medicine and public health, the co-lead author of the study, explains that:
This research about attitude and the immune system, shows how to have a high immune system against the cancer coming back, and how to get your life back!
A co-author of the study, Dr. Edward Nelson, a UCI oncologist, and tumor immunologist, says that it has been known that that chronic stress hampers the immune system’s ability to destroy tumor cells.
Dr Nelson and Dr Wenzel found that the women also reported improvements in quality of life after the 6 telephone counseling sessions, which helped in dealing with issues, and decrease stress. Dr. Nelson reported that:
You will want to try guided meditations, or join a group if you have cancer. Why?
Here's how meditation helps with boosting immune system strength.
Neuroscientists such as Kevin Tracey, MD are showing us that this nerve controls signals for the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a protein that signals the body to mount an inflammatory response against tumors.
Mindfulness meditation can improve life satisfaction for cancer survivors and help with:
Immunotherapy along with cancer treatment is vastly improving survival rates.
