Indole-3-carbinol inhibits breast cancer even if the cancer is not estrogen responsive.

Cancer Nutrition As Good As Surgery for Prostate Cancer

Cancer nutrition is now realistic for prostate cancer because eating both tomatoes and broccoli together were found to shrink prostate tumors in rats. (January 15, 2007 issue of the journal Cancer Research)

Research had previously discovered that sulfur compounds in broccoli enhance enzymes in the body that degrade cancer-causing substances, and that tomatoes help prevent prostate cancer.

When researchers combined them they found the effect to be enhanced.

Especially older men with slow-growing prostate cancer who have chosen "watchful waiting" rather than chemotherapy and radiation, should seriously consider altering their diets to included more tomatoes and broccoli, according to new research. Why?

Nutritionists found that the results of cancer nutrition diet changes were similar to the results of surgery:

"We found it very exciting to compare the effects of drastic surgery to the effects of diet, and see that tumor reduction was similar,” stated research team member and report coauthor Kirstie Canene-Adams.

The nutritionists who did the study say that to get these effects, men should consume daily 1.4 cups of raw broccoli and 2.5 cups of fresh tomato, or 1 cup of tomato sauce, or ½ cup of tomato paste.”
