Recent Discoveries for Simple Cancer Nutrition with Cancer Treatment

What does medical research say about simple cancer nutrition with treatment? The guidelines for eating to prevent cancer are now expanding to also include nutrition to help treat cancer.

• Research is only just beginning to show us exactly how food can TREAT cancer as well as prevent it.

• Scientists are already able to pinpoint exactly how certain foods have anti-tumor effects - for all cancers – as well as for cancers as specific as HER2-driven breast cancer disease.

HERE'S WHAT TO DO and NOT TO DO based on recent health discoveries for simple cancer nutrition:

1) GET SUNSHINE or take Vitamin D

"There is no better anti-cancer agent than activated vitamin D. It does everything you'd want," explains Dr. J. Cannell of the Vitamin D Council.

Why? In the body, vitamin D is converted into a steroid hormone, and genes responding to it play a crucial role in fixing damaged cells and maintaining good cell health.

Those studying the vitamin say that the ”hide-from-sunlight” advice has amounted to the health equivalent of a foolish poker trade.

Anyone practicing sun avoidance has traded the benefit of a reduced risk of SKIN CANCER — which is easy to detect and treat and seldom fatal — for an increased risk of the scary, high-body-count cancers, such as BREAST, PROSTATE AND COLON, that appear linked to vitamin D shortages. "Fifteen hundred Americans die every year from skin cancers. Fifteen hundred Americans DIE EVERY DAY FROM THE SERIOUS CANCERS."

The sun advice has been misguided information "of just breathtaking proportions," says John Cannell, head of the Vitamin D Council, a non-profit, California-based organization.

A recent vitamin D study amazed even the researchers, who found that taking vitamin D supplements and calcium substantially reduced all cancer risk – by 77%.

The four-year study, conducted by researchers at Creighton University in Nebraska, initially enrolled 1,180 women who were over the age of 55 and living in a nine-county rural area of the state.

• NEW RECOMMENDATIONS: Reinhold Vieth, professor at the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto and one of the world's top vitamin D experts says that rather than pollutants, the critical factor for cancer "is more likely a lack of vitamin D."

He recommends taking AT LEAST 1000 IU of vitamin D in the winter and for anyone not getting into the sun. Many are now recommending 5000 IU of vitamin D per day and are doubling that for a therapeutic dosage.

2) Add These for Simple Cancer Nutrition:

HERE IS THE RESEARCH CONSENSUS FOR BASIC SIMPLE CANCER NUTRITION:

Intake of flax seed, especially its lignan fraction, and abundant portions of fruits and vegetables will lower cancer risk.

Foods found to exert an anti-carcinogenic effect at realistic doses are:

a) omega 3 fats and extra virgin olive oil, b) cruciferous or brassica vegetables, c) tea d) berries

OMEGA-3 FATS inhibit cancers and most people do not eat enough:

• An Australian study done ten years ago showed a 40% reduction in melanoma for those who were eating fish.

• Studies (epidemiological, experimental, and mechanistic data) implicate omega-6 fat as STIMULATORS OF CANCERS, and long-chain omega-3 fats as INHIBITORS OF DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESSION OF A RANGE OF HUMAN CANCERS, including melanoma. (Cancer Res 2000 Aug 1;60(15):4139-45)

BEST SOURCES OF OMEGA 3 are: ground FLAX SEEDS, walnuts, salmon, mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, and albacore tuna.

WHY USE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL INSTEAD:
