Mini Stroke Warning Signs: What are Mild Stroke Symptoms, Warning Signs of a Stroke & Mini Stroke Warning Signs?
Why be on the alert for mini stroke warning signs? • Why is it important to know not only the signs of a stroke but also know stroke symptoms and the signs of a mini stroke? Why know mini stroke symptoms? • Because the risk of a stroke increases dramatically in the days after a mini stroke.
Even though your doctor will NOT find any damage from mini strokes and mini stroke symptoms (TIA trans ischemic attack) by using a BRAIN SCAN, new BRAIN MAPPING techniques are now showing that there is in fact BRAIN DAMAGE from a MINI STROKE! • Mini strokes in fact do leave “hidden” brain damage!
What are Mini Stroke Symptoms: Mini Stroke Warning Signs?
A mini stroke, or a TIA (transient ischemic attack) is caused by a short blood loss to the brain, and the signs of a mini stroke are:• Numbness or tingling • Temporary loss of vision • Difficulty speaking • Weakness on one side of the body Because the signs of a mini stroke disappear quickly – usually within 24 hours, many people do not take such an episode seriously.
Why take Mini Stroke Warnings Seriously?
A mini stroke or TIAs is often a warning sign of a future stroke. Why pay attention?Because after a mini stroke attack, the risk of a stroke increases dramatically, and the mini stroke may offer an opportunity to find a cause or minimize the risk to prevent the permanent neurologic damage that results because of a stroke. It has been known that a mini stroke is a warning sign of a likely future stroke, although not every person goes on to have a stroke.
Mini-strokes leave ‘hidden’ Brain Damage
Normally, doctors can NOT find any damage from a mini stroke, either through clinical evaluation or with standard imaging (CT or MRI) within 14 to 30 days of a mini stroke. But new research published in “Stroke,” the journal of the American Heart Association shows that these attacks or mini strokes may not be transient at all. • Using a new brain mapping technique, (transcranial magnetic stimulation, TMS) researchers were amazed to find changes that show that a mini stroke or TIA is likely not a transient event as was previously thought. • The researchers found that mini strokes likely DO create lasting neurological damage to the brain! • “A mini stroke causes damage to the brain that lasts much longer than we previously thought it did. In fact, we are not sure if the brain ever recovers,” says the lead author of the study, Jodi Edwards, PhD and that: “We know now that people may look and feel fine, and even standard imaging says they are fine, but they are NOT!” (School of Population and Public Health, UBC) • They found that the brain cells on the affected side of the brain did show changes – that it was indeed harder for the neurons to respond, in comparison to the undamaged side of the brain, and as compared to a group of people with healthy brains. Five Warning Signs of a Stroke:
1) WEAKNESS: Sudden weakness, numbness, or tingling in the face, arm or leg2) TROUBLE SPEAKING: Sudden temporary loss of speech or trouble understanding speech 3) VISION PROBLEMS: Sudden loss of vision, particularly in one eye, or double vision 4) HEADACHE: sudden severe and unusual headache 5) DIZZINESS Sudden loss of balance, especially with any of the abouve signs • If you experience any of these 5 signs, call 911 or your local medical emergency number immediately! • Mini stroke warning signs are more “transient” and usually disappear within 24 hours
What are Heart Attack Warning Signs?
PAIN: • Sudden discomfort or pain that does not go away with rest • Pain that may be in the chest, neck, jaw, shoulder, arms or back • Pain that may feel like burning, squeezing, heaviness, tightness or pressure • In women, pain may be more vague SHORTNESS OF BREATH: • Difficulty breathing NAUSEA • Indigestion • Vomiting SWEATING • Cool, clammy skin FEAR: • Anxiety • Denial Warning signs of a heart attack or a mini stroke may be mild or severe. If you, or someone you know is having any of these signs, call 811 or your local emergency number immediately.
Management of Stroke: What's Best for Stroke Recovery?
Several new studies provide simple but effective ways to improve stroke recovery, to minimize warfarin side effects once a stroke has occurred:One you can try yourself, at home, but the other only with professional supervision! • Spinach and Blueberries Surprise Scientists for Better Stroke Recovery! A study published in the journal Experimental Neurology suggests that antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables can limit brain damage from stroke and other neurological disorders. USF/VA neuroscientist Paula Bickford, PhD, and colleagues, found that rats fed diets preventatively enriched with blueberries, spinach or an algae known as spirulina (a phytoplankton) experienced less brain cell loss as well as improved recovery of movement, following a stroke. • For management of stroke, be PRO-ACTIVE, and avoid having to watch for mini stroke warning signs! • See:
Blueberry Recipes
• This study builds upon previous USF/VA research showing that diets enriched with blueberries, spinach or spirulina reversed normal age-related declines in memory and learning in old rats. • Researchers were amazed at the extent of neuro protection that antioxidant-rich diets provide. Dr. Bickford, a researcher at the USF Center for Aging and Brain Repair reported that the size of the stroke was 50 to 75 percent less in rats treated with diets supplemented with blueberries, spinach or spirulina before the stroke.” It is thought that antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances in these fruits and vegetables may somehow reduce the nerve cell injury and death triggered by a stroke, the researchers suggest. • They conclude that ongoing treatment with blueberry, spinach, or spirulina reducesb cell death (ischemia/reperfusion-induced apoptosis) and cell death due to stroke. (cerebral infarction). • This is an easy, readily available, inexpensive and safe way to benefit stroke patients, according to the researchers – without warfarin side effects. Certainly taking a multiple vitamin with folate and vitamin B has been shown to benefit heart health, thereby reducing the need for blood thinner medication, with dangerous warfarin side effects & danger of bleeding strokes. • Avoid having mini stroke warning signs by being pro-active!

Natural Blood Thinners Supplements Dissolve Blood Clots?
We hope you have found our research postings about mini stroke warning signs helpful. Please explore our articles on heart disease for foods and supplements to use as natural blood thinners as a natural Coumadin alternative, or as statin alternatives. • Why? You may not want to follow a warfarin vitamin k diet, or you rightly worry about Coumadin food interactions and Coumadin drug interactions. • To no longer worry about warfarin interactions and scary warfarin side effects, you will want to find out about using an
arginine supplement.
“Molecule of the year” of the American Academy of Science, with over 84,000 medical studies, arginine is FDA approved for heart disease, and is the ideal supplement for high blood pressure. You may not be looking for statin alternatives, but arginine will also reduce your LDL or bad cholesterol. • Arginine functions to reduce blood clots, making it an ideal Coumadin alternative, so you no longer have to worry about dangerous
Coumadin side effects.
• We recommend that you try the best arginine supplement we have found and tested: •
