Colon Cancer and Breast Cancer:
Natural Cure for Colorectal, Breast, Ovarian Cancer, Cancer of the Uterus and Kidney Cancer?
Both colon cancer and breast cancer rates can easily be reduced substantially, say medical researchers. Not only prevention, but with vitamins as a natural cure for people who already have these cancers: ...breast, colon cancer, ovarian cancer, kidney cancer and cancer of the uterus... could improve their odds as they undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments and even if they are dealing with metastases. How? A team of researchers headed by Cedric Garland reported that taking Vitamin D supplements of 2000 IU per day, is not only a strong means of prevention, but also suggest taking vitamin D as therapy to stop cancer cells from proliferating and to keep tumors under better control. New Study on Breast & Colon Cancer
Conducting one of the most detailed studies Dr. Garland, of the University of California, showing the association between blood levels of vitamin D and the odds of developing breast or colorectal cancer, believes that the scientific case for taking extra vitamin D is strong. He believes that increasing the intake of this vitamin would reduce the total number of people on this continent contracting breast and prostate cancer by more than 100,000 per year. About 3,000 studies have been published in the medical literature investigating the association between vitamin D and all types of cancer, and most have found that the vitamin plays a beneficial role. For instance, a low level of the vitamin is particularly linked to ovarian cancer, and to kidney cancer and cancer of the uterus. For prostate cancer it is more associated to aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Dr. Garland’s study is one of the most detailed to date to look at the association between blood levels of vitamin D and the odds of developing either breast cancer or colon cancer in the future.
Natural Cancer Cure: Stopping Cancer Cells?
Although doctors in the past have told their patients not to take vitamins or vitamin supplements during their your cancer treatment, this may be changing. Why?While there has been studies, e.g. showing that doses of vitamin C could actually feed tumors, many scientists are now suggesting that Vitamin D has anti cancer properties that affect every cell of the body, and that this vitamin should be taken both before and during treatments, especially for both breast and colon cancer. Advocates for vitamin D as a therapy are saying that at any point in the development of cancer, at its initial site, or even after it spreads in a process known as metastasis, that vitamin D is able to coax cells back into proper behavior. Those who are recommending Vitamin D say it may stop cells from proliferating into full-blown tumors, or keep tumors under better control. This would mean, according to researchers such as Dr. Garland, that those who already have these cancers, could improve their odds of beating the diseases by taking vitamin
Ideal Dose for Breast, Prostate, Colon Cancer?
How does vitamin D prevent cancers or slow down their development?Scientists have found that normal cells adhere to one another in tissue with adequate vitamin D, acting as mature epithelial cells. They speculate that without enough vitamin D, they may lose this stickiness along with their identity as differentiated cells, and revert to a stem cell-like state, and eventually produce tumors. Researchers like Dr. Garland , and vitamin D experts such as Dr. Reinhold Vieth at the University of Toronto, say that diet and supplements can restore appropriate vitamin D levels, for preventing cancer development. Vitamin D levels can be increased by modest supplementation with vitamin D3 in the range of 2000 IU/day, according to Dr. Garland. The researchers noted that many studies show an apparent beneficial effect of vitamin D and calcium on cancer risk and survival of patients with breast, colorectal and prostate cancer. "The first event in cancer is loss of communication among cells due to, among other things, low vitamin D and calcium levels," according to epidemiologist Cedric Garland, DrPH, professor of family and preventive medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, who led the work. "In this new model, we propose that this loss may play a key role in cancer by disrupting the communication between cells that is essential to healthy cell turnover, allowing more aggressive cancer cells to take over." Reporting online May 22, 2009 in the Annals of Epidemiology, Garland suggests that such cellular disruption could account for the earliest stages of many cancers. See also:

Good News for Beating Cancer Rates
The good news is an individual's risk of developing cancer during his or her lifetime is holding steady, and even declining in some cases. • More men are surviving a diagnosis of cancer as death rates for lung, colon cancer prostate and other cancers fall. For women, mortality rates from cervical, ovarian and pancreatic cancer are falling, and the breast cancer death rate is at its lowest since 1950. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer in women. • Many people are improving their odds by using nutrition and supplements for both prevention and treatment. • There are also powerful anti tumor nutraceuticals. A nutraceutical is a food that has been clinically proven to do what it claims to do, e.g. have anti tumor properties. • You may ask for studies and recommendations of natural, clinically tested anti tumor nutraceuticals listed in the U.S. Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR):

Beating the Odds With Colon Cancer
Today For both men and women, colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer. Over the last two decades, colorectal cancer incidence rates have declined substantially, and, between 1984 and 2004, they fell by nearly 26 percent. This decline is likely due to increased colon cancer screening, which allows physicians to detect and remove colorectal polyps before they progress to cancer. About 65 percent of men and women diagnosed with colorectal cancer now survive their disease at least five years. Studies provided strong evidence that environmental and lifestyle factors could influence risk for colorectal cancer. Many findings suggest that dietary factors - particularly meat and dietary fats - play a role in colon cancer development
